Care for Your Bed Linens – Eastern Decorator Review

Buying your bed linens is just an easy task, but knowing how to care for it can be another story. It’s pretty challenging for those have never had to take care of laundry before. The following laundry care procedures are recommended to enhance your bed linens look and feel as well as extend its longevity.

General “Do Not” Guidelines
·         Do not “free pour” detergent into your washing machine. This will not only damage your linen but also the laundry equipment.
·         Do not “over load” as this will result in wrinkled your bed linens.
·         Do not “over dry” your bed linen as it will cause the sheets and pillow cases to become rough.

Laundry Guidelines for Bed Sheets and Pillow Cases
·         Separate your bed sheets / pillow cases from bathroom terry (towels).
·         Do not wash / dry your bed sheets / pillow cases with towels – because towels absorb 3 times the amount of water than bed sheets do. Thus, your bed sheets and pillow cases will be over dried and become rough.
·         Avoid over-loading your washing machine to prevent breaking long-fibers e.g. Egyptian Cotton.
·         Washing temperature should not exceed 65°C (150F) approx.
·         Drying temperature should not exceed 70°C (160F) approx. for 20 minutes.
·         Remove quickly from machine washer and dryer to eliminate wrinkles.
·         If your bed sheets / pillow cases are wrinkled in the dryer, toss in a dampened cloth and dry for 5-10 minutes longer.
·         If pre-soaking is necessary, cold water is recommended.

Laundry Guidelines for Comforters, Quilts (Duvets), Bed Skirts
·         Close all zippers before laundering.
·         Wash with mild detergent.
·         Do not use alkaline detergent, acid, chlorine bleach in either washing or drying cycles – because they can negatively impact the look and feel as well as their longevity.
·         Avoid temperatures above 50°C (120F).

Laundry Guidelines for Mattress Topper
·         Machine washing in cold water.
·         Do not bleach as it breaks down fabric fibers.
·         Use mild detergent.
·         Dry in low temperature, avoid more than 120°C (250F).
·         Do not overstuff the dryer.

Storage Guidelines
·         It’s ideal to have three bed sheet sets for a bed. For instance, you will have one on the bed, one in the storage while another one in the laundry.
·         Change your bed sheets preferably once a week in hot and humid climates e.g. Malaysia.
·         Rotate using your bed sheet sets frequently so that the three sets wear evenly.

REMEMBER: These guidelines are general. Care instructions are specific to the type of bed linens and bedding accessories that you have chosen. Hence, we recommend you to follow the care labels accordingly to ensure that you care for your bed linen in the best possible way. ;-)

Tips to Colour Your Home

In a world where thousands of colours can be chosen from, choosing colour (whether paint or colour of your home furnishings) for each segment of your home should be a fun; however, you should seriously consider every colour and its association before putting on as colour affect moods and emotions for those who stay in the space that you have created.

Colour brings life into every inch of your house. For instance, it can warm (yellow colour) or cool (white colour), calm (blue colour) or excite (red colour) you. What’s more, cleverly use of colour can make your small bedroom looks bigger, why not?

Begin at the Beginning
Determine what features or existing finishes in the room you would consider permanent. Consider the wardrobes, for example, if the wood of your bedroom wardrobes has a red undertone, make sure the paint or decoration colour you choose works well with that hue.

Determine the Colour Scheme
Consider the proportions of different colour that you wish to use carefully. One colour should always dominate a colour scheme. A scheme that always works well is to have two thirds of the room done in one colour and the other third in another colour. You should avoid using two colours of the same strength and intensity.

Emphasize or Minimize
Colour of your paint or furnishings can emphasize certain features while minimizing others. A long narrow room will look wider if you use a slightly darker colour on the shorter walls and a lighter colour on the longer walls. To give a big room a more intimate feel, decorate the walls in colours that advance toward you, such as red, gold, orange and brown. To help a small room seem larger, paint and also decorate the walls in colours that make them appear to recede, such as white, blue or violet colour.

Common Colour and its Associations

Love, life, power, heat, roses, strength, sex, cherries, blood, Christmas, danger, excitement

Kid’s Room Decorating Ideas from Eastern Decorator

Decorating your kid’s room can be fun and it doesn’t need to be expensive. The key is to focus on fun, personal style and preferred cartoon character like Hello Kitty, Superman and so on.

Kids’ bedrooms are more than just a place to sleep; they usually share a lot in common such as vibrant colours with their favourite cartoon characters on bed sheets, walls and furniture, fun shapes, cute features, playful pieces, interesting stuffs and fun patterns. So their rooms are probably the most difficult to decorate. The parents need to be sure that the room is safe and child-friendly, with functional and easy to use pieces and with a beautiful theme.

Pick a Theme
Simply put, selecting your kid’s preferred theme (can be derived from his/her preferred cartoon character) to coordinate with a subject matter gives you a unifying focal point for all the room’s parts. And selecting a subject (e.g. play area, study area, shelf, cabinet etc.) that excites and conjures up your kid’s creativeness will supply them unending excitement and satisfaction.

Add Colour
Painting is one of the least expensive ways of decorating your kid’s rooms. However, it doesn’t necessarily need to paint all the walls. All you need is to create an accent wall, and repaint in a different colour way. Other avenues can be considered like the bedroom door in a bright colour or the window frames in of pink colour.

Repaint Furniture
Consider repainting some of your subject (old furniture) such as dresser drawers, table, book shelves, and chairs etc. that incorporate the bedroom theme. Other types of furniture can be added later if you have spare cash, but for the meantime it is best to concentrate on getting necessary items first.

Here’s some cartoon characters for you to consider. Let’s get started to design a lovely bedroom for your kids. Have fun ;-)

Luxury Hotel-like Bedroom Décor Ideas

Have you ever dreamed of having a bedroom as luxurious as that of the 5-star hotels? Creating a luxurious and stylish bedroom isn’t as easy as it sounds because you need to look into each and every detail of your bedroom to get a luxury hotel bedroom décor. We’ve gathered some pictures of our collections on luxurious bedroom designs. Let’s have some fun with your bedroom by applying some ideas, you’ll make it tastes like a hotel.

Step 1
Select a Hotel’s Theme
When designing a hotel guest room, hotels usually develop a color palette and scheme that fits with their themes or locations e.g. the garden, golf course, desert or beach etc.).
This applies to yours – you need to develop a “theme” for your bedroom as it’s the place which reflects your taste and style. Sounds great huh?

Step2
Decorate Your Bed
Earth-tone, consistent white  and plain are the core elements that most hotels have in common.
Bed is the prominent area as the colour of a hotel room is brought up by the bedspreads, pillows and other bedding accessories – either matching or coordinating curtains, which are generally always in earth-tone colours.

You can consider of what hotel rooms share another common element of having quality, commercial grade furnishings and carpet, quality room-darkening draperies and bedspreads and the finest linens. Hotel towels and washcloths are consistently white and clean.

Buying quality products for your own home is often less costly in the long run because quality products are more durable and last much longer than sub-standard merchandise. For instance, cheap towels often fray after their very first encounter with a washing machine. But, high quality towels often continue to look fluffy and new even after 40-50 washings.

Step3
Space Up Your Bedroom
Most hotels often take a small space and create a flexible place for the guest for various activities.
Simply space up your bedroom according to your desired activities that you want to perform besides sleeping. For instance, you can consider adding a (1) snack area with mini refrigerator, (2) executive working table and chair, or (3) small reading area.

Step4
Snacks Area
Here’s an area where guests can have their food, drinks and snacks.
Simply transform a corner of your bedroom for your food and beverage by adding a chair or two plus a small table. It’s a better idea than having to go to the kitchen for a refreshing beverage or snack while watching movie.

Step5
Light It Up
Some techniques are being used in 5-Star hotels.
Not necessary all techniques required, but you can apply some recommended ideas by installing (1) dimmer control on your every switch, (2) three-way switch bedside lamp, or (3) reading lights at your snacks or reading area.

Step6
Personalize Your Room
Most hotel rooms feature local art and interest magazines so their guests feel the connection with the city that they are visiting.
As for your case, you can consider displaying some of your favourite painting, antique items, books etc. so that you’ll feel connected.

Layered Décor Conveys Luxurious Bedroom Decorating Ideas

January 13, 2011

A contemporary, more importantly a luxurious bed, like this one (Figure shown below) with a well-matched bedsheet set creates a focal point in this bedroom with a cocooning feel especially when covered in soft quilt cover and dark blue coverlet together with a crisp white bedlinen add to the layered richness of this decorating idea, while a blend of lustre and shine of curtain fabrics with leafy pale grey accents introduces a sense of simplicity luxury.

Further interest could be presented with a patterned grayish blue carpet.

WAYS TO MAKE IT WORKS

TIP 1
Exhibit of greyish blue (or your preferred colour choice) in a predominantly neutral scheme creates a theme and lasting impact.

TIP2
Introduce a lamp light with a character adds personality to a quiet reading corner (without disturbing your partner, perhaps).

TIP3
Put in a flat-weaved carpet/rug has a smart contemporary look with the bonus of soft coziness underfoot.
