AKEMI Tencel® Fabric on Your Skin

by Fred Victor

Well, there are undoubtedly many treats in stores with an ever-changing range of fabrics coupled with great bargains. Nevertheless, it’s still important for choosing a really good fabric especially when it comes to SLEEP … undeniable perhaps.

Here, AKEMI Tencel® introduces “the botanical way of life” – a new age in fiber technology

What is AKEMI Tencel®?
AKEMI Tencel® is an amazing eco-friendly fabric, and it’s completely natural. Made with wood pulp cellulose from sustainable tree, AKEMI Tencel® fabrics are created through the use of nanotechnology (the first cellulose to use nanotechnology)

The AKEMI Tencel® fabrics are as soft as silk, strong as polyester, cool as linen, warm as wool and more absorbent than cotton.

It’s a 100% biodegradable fabric which certified by the International Forest Stewardship Council.

Besides, AKEMI Tencel® fabrics carry the Oeko Tex 100 certification, an international standard developed in 1992 so as to certify that it contains no harmful substances. Further, it also has been awarded the European Community Eco-label flower for products and services with reduced environmental impacts.

In brief, Tencel® is a registered brand name for a fibre call lyocell, manufactured by the Lenzing AG Company.

In short, AKEMI Tencel® fabric is amazingly comfortable!

Why AKEMI Tencel®?

AKEMI Tencel® Looks Brilliant
AKEMI Tencel® sheets have a beautiful flowing drape, and the brilliant luster of silk which boast easy-care properties to beat cotton. The sheet is just simple to launder, and ironing is much easier than those conventional sheets. AKEMI Tencel® will keep its colour and exceptional appearance even after numerous washes. Take a look, seeing is believing!!

AKEMI Tencel® Feels Comfortable Though It’s Warm under Bed Sheet
AKEMI Tencel® has a cool and sensual touch for that extra special comfort. The incredible smoothness and in-built moisture control capabilities of AKEMI Tencel® help you to keep cool when other fabrics are not able to.

Let’s look at the figure below, AKEMI Tencel® (left) is not just “feel good”, it is also especially kind and gentle to the skin. In contrast, the surface of cotton fiber (right) is typically much rougher, irregular and more irritating to sensitive skin types.

AKEMI Tencel® Has Unique Moisture Performance
AKEMI Tencel® has a unique moisture control capability that comes from its internal structure of very fine Nanofibrils inside the fiber. Nanofibrils are tiny components (little "hairs") which make up the fiber. The unique structure of the fibrils allows the production of textiles which, until now, could only be dreamed of. This is the first cellulose fiber whose functionality is based on this innovative structure. These Nanofibrils work together like a network of tiny canals that able to conjure away moisture, they are hydrophilic, and able to optimize the absorption of moisture with excellent cooling properties, thus enhancing your sleeping comfort.

Tests show that AKEMI Tencel® demonstrates its excellence in moisture absorption capability, that it absorbs 50% more than the conventional cotton. It’s just incredible!

AKEMI Tencel® Inhibits Bacteria Growth
Due to the excellent control of moisture, AKEMI Tencel® Nanofibrils generate an excellent comfort zone next to the skin. Also, with lesser moisture, the growth of bacteria on fibers is inhibited.

Without bacteria, mold and mites similarly find life more difficult. All this is achieved without the use of added chemicals that otherwise might be harmful to sensitive skin.

In other words, AKEMI Tencel® is ideal for sensitive skin!!

AKEMI Tencel® Feels Like a Second Skin
AKEMI Tencel® is produced from wood pulp by means of a process that respects the environment and uses no pesticides and/or other potentially harmful chemicals.

This means TENCEL® is pure and soothing next to the skin. Independent studies have shown that these characteristics work together with the natural moisture control of AKEMI Tencel® produce a significant improvement in the well-being of people especially those with very sensitive skins.

This combination of properties and the ecological nature of the fiber itself make AKEMI Tencel® bed sheets a “must-have” and a dream come true for everyone.

AKEMI Tencel® is 100% Organic
As mentioned earlier, AKEMI Tencel® is extracted from wood pulp, thus it is 100% bio-degradable. The wood used is taken from tree farms which practice sustainability and is guaranteed by the PEFC quality seal and the international FSC label.

It is a good feeling to go to bed with AKEMI Tencel®!

Award Winning

In summary, every night is a special night with AKEMI Tencel® bed sheet.

AKEMI Tencel® excites the senses in a way that no other fiber can, giving you the most satisfying sleep ever. Its cool, sensual touch, in-built freshness and lustrous good looks combine together in the purest of Nanofibers. Anyone who has ever experienced AKEMI Tencel® bed sheets or pillows will never again wish to sleep on anything else! It’s simply incredible!!

Have a good night's sleep ;-)

How to Choose a Bed Sheet That Suits Me

by Fred Victor

Well, we spend about one-third of our lives in bed (correct me if you’re just having less than a 3-hour sleep due to your busy schedules daily), thus choosing the right bed sheet set can make huge difference by providing a restful, hygienic and healthier comfort throughout  a night’s sleep.

No doubt, your bed sheet’s quality relies greatly on the (1) types of fibre, (2) fabric weave patterns, and (3) tensions of the weaving.
If you’re in the midst of finding a new bed sheet, the following tips will offer some help.

Size of Your Mattress
There is a wide variety of mattress sizes available in the market today, and varies from country to country. Of them, the most common ones include mattresses for single, super single, queen, king and super king. Frankly, there are some people who are uncertain of whether their mattresses are king or super king ... me too ;-)

Mattress Thickness/Depth
There is a wide choice of mattresses available in the market nowadays that it may easily get you confused, your mattress thickness is the case. From a standard depth of 6-7 inches (15-18 cm), mattresses can now be as deep as 10-16 inches (25-40 cm). Again, such standard varies from countries; you should triple-check on the mattress label before purchasing a bed sheet that suits yours.

Thread Count
You can easily find out whether on the front or back of the bed sheet packaging, thread count indications are printed it. In brief, thread count refers to the number of threads per square inch/centimeter in both directions in the weave. Of course, the higher the thread count, the more luxurious the feel of a fabric is.

Consider a Fabric that Works Well for You
For sheets you’ll sleep on it for about eight hours every day, let’s treat yourself better okay. Just choose the best you can afford. Cotton is the most popular sheet fabric in terms of moisture absorption; for luxury, sateen and silk can be considered; for performance, Microtex™ and Silktex™ can be considered.

Check the Laundering Instructions
Look, silk bed sheets are definitely sensuous and beautiful, but let’s consider if you have to dry clean your bed sheet each week. Why? It’s because silk cannot be machine-washed. So, let’s be sure that you’ll be able to care for your bed sheets the way the laundering/caring instructions say. But, if you insist on silk bed sheet, you should consider Silktex™ - which shares the many positive properties of cotton, and at the same time it can replicate the soft and smooth feel of silk.

Last but not least, allow me to stress that approximately 1/3 of our time is being invested in bed, so should we consider investing something on bed? Haha, meaning that the quality of your bed should be really upgraded ;-)

Have a great weekend ahead!

Tips to Colour Your Home

In a world where thousands of colours can be chosen from, choosing colour (whether paint or colour of your home furnishings) for each segment of your home should be a fun; however, you should seriously consider every colour and its association before putting on as colour affect moods and emotions for those who stay in the space that you have created.

Colour brings life into every inch of your house. For instance, it can warm (yellow colour) or cool (white colour), calm (blue colour) or excite (red colour) you. What’s more, cleverly use of colour can make your small bedroom looks bigger, why not?

Begin at the Beginning
Determine what features or existing finishes in the room you would consider permanent. Consider the wardrobes, for example, if the wood of your bedroom wardrobes has a red undertone, make sure the paint or decoration colour you choose works well with that hue.

Determine the Colour Scheme
Consider the proportions of different colour that you wish to use carefully. One colour should always dominate a colour scheme. A scheme that always works well is to have two thirds of the room done in one colour and the other third in another colour. You should avoid using two colours of the same strength and intensity.

Emphasize or Minimize
Colour of your paint or furnishings can emphasize certain features while minimizing others. A long narrow room will look wider if you use a slightly darker colour on the shorter walls and a lighter colour on the longer walls. To give a big room a more intimate feel, decorate the walls in colours that advance toward you, such as red, gold, orange and brown. To help a small room seem larger, paint and also decorate the walls in colours that make them appear to recede, such as white, blue or violet colour.

Common Colour and its Associations

Red
Love, life, power, heat, roses, strength, sex, cherries, blood, Christmas, danger, excitement

Blue
Sky, freshness, sea, intelligence, birds, heaven, jeans, cold, mountains, ducks

Yellow
Sunshine, ducklings, brightness, vigour, bananas, gold, canaries, the moon, lemons

Luxury Hotel-like Bedroom Décor Ideas

Have you ever dreamed of having a bedroom as luxurious as that of the 5-star hotels? Creating a luxurious and stylish bedroom isn’t as easy as it sounds because you need to look into each and every detail of your bedroom to get a luxury hotel bedroom décor. We’ve gathered some pictures of our collections on luxurious bedroom designs. Let’s have some fun with your bedroom by applying some ideas, you’ll make it tastes like a hotel.

Step 1
Select a Hotel’s Theme
When designing a hotel guest room, hotels usually develop a color palette and scheme that fits with their themes or locations e.g. the garden, golf course, desert or beach etc.).
This applies to yours – you need to develop a “theme” for your bedroom as it’s the place which reflects your taste and style. Sounds great huh?

Step2
Decorate Your Bed
Earth-tone, consistent white  and plain are the core elements that most hotels have in common.
Bed is the prominent area as the colour of a hotel room is brought up by the bedspreads, pillows and other bedding accessories – either matching or coordinating curtains, which are generally always in earth-tone colours.

You can consider of what hotel rooms share another common element of having quality, commercial grade furnishings and carpet, quality room-darkening draperies and bedspreads and the finest linens. Hotel towels and washcloths are consistently white and clean.

Buying quality products for your own home is often less costly in the long run because quality products are more durable and last much longer than sub-standard merchandise. For instance, cheap towels often fray after their very first encounter with a washing machine. But, high quality towels often continue to look fluffy and new even after 40-50 washings.

Step3
Space Up Your Bedroom
Most hotels often take a small space and create a flexible place for the guest for various activities.
Simply space up your bedroom according to your desired activities that you want to perform besides sleeping. For instance, you can consider adding a (1) snack area with mini refrigerator, (2) executive working table and chair, or (3) small reading area.

Step4
Snacks Area
Here’s an area where guests can have their food, drinks and snacks.
Simply transform a corner of your bedroom for your food and beverage by adding a chair or two plus a small table. It’s a better idea than having to go to the kitchen for a refreshing beverage or snack while watching movie.

Step5
Light It Up
Some techniques are being used in 5-Star hotels.
Not necessary all techniques required, but you can apply some recommended ideas by installing (1) dimmer control on your every switch, (2) three-way switch bedside lamp, or (3) reading lights at your snacks or reading area.

Step6
Personalize Your Room
Most hotel rooms feature local art and interest magazines so their guests feel the connection with the city that they are visiting.
As for your case, you can consider displaying some of your favourite painting, antique items, books etc. so that you’ll feel connected.

Sleeping Positions during Pregnancy

Often women wonder if it is cool to sleep on their tummy during pregnancy. Frankly, it isn’t the case – sleeping on the belly and on the back are not ideal positions during your pregnancy months.

Finding a comfortable sleeping position is one of the reasons why women become sleep deprived in the later part of their pregnancies. It is a sacrifice indeed to give up your favourite sleeping positions. So, one good tip is to get accustomed to sleeping on the sides long before your belly balloons up.

Having said that – be prepared to lose some sleep. Getting used to the new positions will take some getting used to. As mentioned earlier, better to make this change early on instead of waiting till the time when sleeping in your favourite position becomes just impossible. It’s tiring by the way!

Some good positions are suggested here:

1.     Side-lying positions with lots of pillows for additional support and comfort are ideal.

2.     Lie on your left side (instead of right) so that baby receives its nutrients uninterruptedly.

3.     Cross one leg over the other with a pillow is best for both mother and baby. This position optimizes blood flow to the placenta and ensures smooth functioning of kidneys.
